Tasty Ride

 CYCLING & GASTRONNOMY WEEK – EVIA

We invite you to sample the wonderful and diverse world of Greek gastronomy, while riding your bike!


Based out of the GCH villa on the island of Evia you will sample the best tastes, wines and beverages Greece has to offer as well as enjoying beautiful scenery and quiet roads while riding.


Aimed at cycle enthusiasts who are also foodies, expect to burn plenty of calories in preparation for all the gorgeous food you will taste with Cycling around 50-70 km per day with some moderate hills.
 

Accommodation

Your home for the week is the GCH Villa, Spacious and equipped with everything you need for relaxing time off the bike to The GCH villa comfortably sleeps 8 people in 4 twin rooms and 2 bathrooms.

 

 With a spacious living room and kitchen there is ample space to be comfortable.  As with traditional Greek life most of the time is spent outdoors and the GCH Villa has fantastic outdoor space and the dedicated BBQ & bar area is ideal for relaxing on an evening and into the night. For those that enjoy a cool beer the bar Is equipped with a draft beer chiller. Especially refreshing in a frozen glass!


At the bottom of the garden you will find tranquillity and recovery from your days ride a with a hot tub and relaxation area. Finally, for all you Strava and Facebook addicts, the house is equipped with WiFi..

Itinerary

Day 1 – 
Arrivals day. 
Enjoy Pre-Dinner Ouzo with a selection of small Greek mezze before dinner
Tonight your host and chef cooks you a 3 course Dinner at the GCH villa

Day 2 – 
CHALKIDA – MOURIKI– CHALKIDA (LAKE PARALIMNI)
DISTANCE: 54.79KM/33MILS
ELEVATION: 788 M/ 2300ft
DIFFICULTY RATING:  2.5 
Today the focus is on the riding with a 60 km ride on the mainland to Lake Paralimni, a GCH favourite. Starting and ending in the town of Chalkida you will be dropped off and picked up in the van. This ride has it all. Quiet roads, coastal stretches, rolling hills, an inland lake, traditional farming village a small but testing climb followed by a long exhilarating descent . for an easier option after the coffee stop you can head back the way we came in order to miss out on the climb.

In the afternoon we learn how to make traditional Greek filo pastry and spanakopita. We get to sample the results at dinner!

Day 3- 
WINE TOUR RIDE 
DISTANCE: 40km/25MILS
ELEVATION: 282 M/ 925ft
DIFFICULTY RATING:  2.5 
Today we cycle to 2 wineries in Evia,  Avantis Estate and lykos winery. We get a short tour of their facilities and a chance to taste some of their wines. Don’t drink too much though as you have to cycle home!
After the tasting we enjoy a light lunch by the sea in Eretria

Day 4- 
ATHENS FOOD TOUR
No cycling today as we head the capital Athens for walking food and sightseeing tour tasting all the local delicacies as we go. Your guide for the day will be Christina, a licensed tour guide and local food gastronomy expert.
If you are still hungry Tonight you are free to choose one of Eretria’s’ many Tavernas for dinner. Steven will be more than happy to recommend some places for you!

Day 5- 

MUSHROOM RIDE 
WINE TOUR
DISTANCE: 63km/39MILS
ELEVATION: 954 M/ 3100ft
DIFFICULTY RATING:  3 

Today we ride to Dirfis Mushrooms where we will be given a tour of the farm and facilities followed by a light lunch and a change to sample their products.

Day 6 
STENI RIDE 
DISTANCE: 43KM/ 26.7 miles
ELEVATION: 707 M / 2614ft
DIFFICULTY RATING: 3

Today we ride to the beautiful village of Steni, famous for its tavernas and spit roast meats. We will visit a local Bakery to sample some of their products. We start the ride after a short trip in the van before inland towards mount Dirfis. After the village of Ag Athanasios  you will continue on to Steni at the foot of Mount Dirfis or a rest and refuel before completing the loop and heading back to the van.

Day – 7 
THAROUNIA RIDE
The focus goes back to the cycling as we have our longest ride of the week. Through the sleepy village of Tharounia.
Another Cooking demonstration tonight as we learn how to make ‘Dolmades’ and ‘Gemista’
Again we get to taste the results at dinner, along with a BBQ – Greek style, the perfect way to end the week!

Day 8 
Departure
Unfortunately its time to say goodbye and you will be transferred to the airport for your departure home
